Forgotten Lore and Finding Inspiration- Calgary Concept Photography

This is my final concept photo as part of the pro group I  am a part of.  It’s the one that I really have been working towards all along, and the first picture that popped into my head when I saw the McDougall Church in Morley a few years ago.  What I have learned about concept photography is that sometimes it takes that long, that long for the technical, creative and logistics to come together. But for me, it’s been satisfying to transform this picture on a country church used to celebrate weddings and happy times…

Into the scene I have had in my head  which draws upon my background in English literature. When I first saw the church, it always had an ominous, dark feeling to me and I used that feeling and drew upon Edgar Allen Poe’s “The Raven” for inspiration. I wanted the feeling I had when I looked at the church to come across and be at once beautiful, ominous and powerful at the same time. I wanted the processing and clothing to reflect the darker and heavier art style reflective of the time that the church was built in the 1800’s, yet have a modern twist as the young woman in the picture was the source of the power, instead of the languishing woman often portrayed in that timeframe.

I would love to know what you think and what this means to you, if anything at all.

Here is Forgotten Lore….

Let me know if you have any questions at all as to how I did this, I would love to share. And I would love to hear what you are working on…
