1.  The state or quality of being resolute; firm determination.

2.  The detail a digital image holds

3.  A commitment that an individual makes at New Year’s Day

As I look forward to 2013, back upon 2012 and down to my long list of resolutions, all of these definitions apply to my life in some way.  This year, more than anything, I resolve to capture more fleeting moments of my children, print those moments and watch them pore over their history, ask for stories of when they were little and welcome questions of those who are no longer with us, but are very much a part of who they are today.

This time last year, he could barely talk, was still toddling and held my hand all the time.  This year he’s a full out superhero, protecting the world, his brothers and his mom from harm…

At this time of year when we pause, reflect and look back, I thought I would recreate a photo from almost a year ago of my two youngest boys. Just one fleeting year ago, and yet, so much has changed in our lives.  I am grateful that even as I have another incredible year to look forward to, I have memories beyond my wildest dreams to look back on.

Time passes too quickly…

Merry Christmas Jennifer Kapala Photography

All the best of the holiday season to you and your family.  See you in 2013!

A little while ago I received notification that one of my images won first place in the National Association of Professional Child Photographers (NAPCP) International Image Competition.  Check out all the winners here . I think I am still in shock, but know I am beyond thrilled, humbled and grateful…to the association, to my husband who supports me to do what I love doing, to my clients who inspire me and to my children who are, as always, my muses.

Below is a little expert from the official press release.

(October 18, 2012) – The National Association of Professional Child Photographers (NAPCP) is proud to announce Jennifer Kapala of Calgary, Alberta as a 2012 International Image Competition winner. Kapala competed against thousands of image entries and claimed the first place spot in the Children category, with her piece “Only One You.”

Designed to recognize the world’s most successful child photographers, the NAPCP Image Competition called for images across a range of category subjects including Maternity, Newborn, Babies, Children, Siblings, Toddlers, Tweens, Seniors and Family. Image submissions were carefully judged by a blue-ribbon panel of experts based on impact, technical merit, composition and creativity.

And here it is…
